Awful Child Custody Battle Ends with Mother Allegedly Killing Her Two Children

by Dinnebier & Demmerle on December 6, 2013

A mother is in jail in Orange County for allegedly poisoning her two children to death, following a bitter custody battle.criminal1

According to reports, 42-year-old Marilyn K. Edge of Scottsdale poisoned her two children at a Hampton Inn & Suites in Santa Ana, the day before she was supposed to turn them over to her ex-husband, Mark. Citing “extreme parental alienation,” an Arizona Judge had ordered 10-year-old, Faith, and 11-year-old, Jaelen, to be removed from Ms. Edge’s care.

Mark Edge, the father, was decorating the kids’ rooms in preparation for their arrival, when he got the news that they had been killed. The former Afghanistan U.S. Air Force reservist had to be hospitalized after learning the news.

Marilyn Edge stands accused of two felony counts of special circumstances murder. If convicted, she faces life behind bars without a chance of parole.

Our California family law team sends its condolences to the family – this is an absolutely awful tragedy – and we hope that justice is served in this case.

The case illustrates how unhinged some people can become during the child custody negotiation process. Fortunately, most people are more rational, and events like what happened in Santa Ana are quite rare. That said, it can be scary to watch your ex engage in dubious practices.
